As rescuers looked for survivors among the wreckage, the death toll from a Russian rocket attack that struck an apartment building in eastern Ukraine over the weekend reached 30.

According to Ukrainian officials, at least 29 people have been confirmed killed after a Russian strike on an apartment building over the weekend in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk area.

As Russia intensified its assault on eastern Ukrainian cities and villages in an effort to capture control of the whole Donbas region, a residential building in the town of Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine was struck on Saturday night.

As per Ukraine's State Emergency Service, 24 bodies had been removed from the debris, and another five were visible but could not be saved. According to the emergency service, six individuals had been saved, and contacts had been made with two more who were still trapped beneath the debris.

The area was hit by two or three Russian missiles over the weekend, and the incident was yet another confirmation of the crimes committed by the Russian Federation and their practice of bombarding civilian areas.

In recent days, Russian forces have intensified their shelling of Chasiv Yar and other Donetsk towns as they attempt to crush local Ukrainian opposition and advance towards Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, as per CNN.

Rescuers carefully searched through a massive mound of debris that was left when a five-story building fell late on Saturday in the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk province.

A Reuters correspondent observed rescuers hoisting a survivor from the rubble to a stretcher and removing two people's bodies in white bags. Soldiers contributed to the rescue attempt as well. By early Monday evening, according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy director of the president's office, 65 percent of the rubble, weighing about 170 tonnes, had been removed.

Russia claims its February invasion of Ukraine was a special military operation, but it insists that civilians were not its intended objective. After claiming to have captured nearby Luhansk, Russia is anticipated to concentrate the majority of its attack on eastern Ukraine in the province of Donetsk. The two provinces together comprise the larger industrial region of Donbas, according to Reuters.

Monday marks the 138th day since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 in what the Kremlin is still referring to as a 'special military operation.' Russia lost approximately 37,400 personnel, 1,645 tanks, 3,828 armored combat vehicles, 838 artillery units, 247 multiple launch rocket systems, 109 air defense systems, 217 warplanes, 188 helicopters, 676 drones, 155 cruise missiles, 15 warships, 2,696 motor vehicles, and fuel tankers, and 66 units of special equipment between February 24 and July 11, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, issued a warning and a challenge this week, saying that his country's campaign in Ukraine has just begun. Despite Ukraine's denials, Russia's military ministry has claimed that it killed Ukrainian personnel on the recently retaken Snake Island who was attempting to fly the Ukrainian flag.

Russia may be taking a short operational break in its push in eastern Ukraine to allow its forces to relax before attempting to reassemble for another offensive, according to the US-based Institute for the Study of War.

The Turkish ambassador has been called by Ukraine, which claims that Turkey has permitted a Russian ship carrying tens of thousands of tons of grain that was purportedly stolen from Ukraine to dock at one of its ports. Kyiv claims that the ship is carrying 7,000 tons of stolen grain on board.

Due to Russia's embargo on Ukrainian grain exports, the United Nations has issued a dire warning about an impending food crisis. In the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, the resignation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been greeted with regret, especially by Volodymyr Zelensky, who referred to him as a great friend of Ukraine, Newsweek via MSN reported.
