A winter storm warning has been issued for New York State, which will be hit with up to a foot of snow in some areas. Here's what you need to know for tonight, and the next couple of days.
Snowfall in New York City will begin at around 2 a.m. tonight.
Forecasters say between six and 10 inches of snow will cover the city by Thursday morning.
At least one foot of snow is expected to fall in the north and western regions of the state.
In the city and other seaside regions, the snow might switch to freezing rain or sleet. Whatever form it takes, the icy stuff is expected to fall for 24 hours straight.
Officials suggest drivers move their cars to the left side of a one-way street, since plows move on the right.
The winter storm warning will be in place from midnight tonight until 6 a.m. on Friday.
An unidentified Sanitation Department spokesperson told the New York Times the city has about 135,000 tons of salt ready for the icy conditions.
"We feel that 135,000 tons will be sufficient," she told the Times.
Today's forecast is mild, with increasing clouds as the day progresses and a high temperature of 27. Times correspondents suggest any residents stock up on basics and necessaries today, ahead of the storm.
