MUNICH, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 07: A Kettler Cargo E-bike is presented during the 2021 Munich Motor Show IAA Mobility on September 07, 2021 in Munich, Germany.

Electric bikes are the alternative over the rampaging oil price spikes of the oil and gas that is knocking inflation up, and middle-class America is suffering more.

The Biden administration has no answer on how to reign the crisis driving gas to all-time high prices. E-bikes seem to be the answer to avoid paying more at the pump in the gas crisis affecting the US.

High Demand for E-bikes as Gas Prices Surge

For now, the choice between an e-bike or a car is a no-contest as travel becomes restrictive except for those who can ace the high gas prices, reported The Epoch Times.

Tales at the pump show that by March 19, when the price per gallon went up to $4.26, there was a 20 percent increase in sales of e-bikes than from a year ago, mentioned by data from the American Automobile Association (AAA). The burdens of the imposed fuel prices have made a move to these E-bikes the best choice.

Pedego Electric Bike store located in St. Louis remarked that more bought these low-cost personal transports in February last month and drove up demand for it.

CEO Don DiCostanzo spoke to Bloomberg, saying that more units will be on sale way before the season. Each month he expects more demand for it.

The higher fuel prices may not be the cause, but it shows car owners there is another alternative to driving cars every day. It is another form of transport to opt for than with a car.

Bike Boom Same as in the 1970s

DiCostanzo said that the increased sales of electric bikes were the same trend in the 1970s. More interest in consumers has caused a doubling of earnings in just four years due to the oil price spikes now or before.

Gas prices hitting the roof are the same as in the 70s, as history repeats frequently.

Another E-bike shop owner, William Leishman, selling the Scooteretti brand in Canada's ByWard Market, added that more customers want to buy from the shop, cited CTV News.

Like DiCostanzo, he says it is in demand as people view the problem of oil and gas being here for a while longer, much to their advantage. He added that more families who own two vehicles are now opting to have one vehicle and getting an e-bike instead of having an extra car. It might be an e-bike as the next option for them to deal with the situation.

More sales of e-bikes as car alternatives are becoming more acceptable as they can carrying kids with cargo space in the back is a good option. The start of this trend of getting bikes came on the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now e-bikes are an extension of it, said Rod Wagner, owner of Aggieland Cycling in Texas, noted KBTX.

Wagner thinks the e-bike is the future of transport for everyone as more are asking about them than ever. These bikes can be expensive now but are cheaper than a car that needs expensive gas.

Eventually, batteries will come cheaper in time, just like cars, and they will be less expensive to make when e-bike becomes more affordable due to more demand.

More consumers in the US are getting electric bikes in 2021 than the 450,000 e-bikes imported in 2020. Electric bikes seem to be the answer to oil price spikes and are seen as an option for the second vehicle, not a car. Adopting these light electric vehicles could offset the effects of higher gas prices.
