Portland (31-11) had their five-game winning streak snapped on Monday in a 127-111 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The Trail Blazers were unable to bounce back the following night and were handed another loss, this time by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"We're not happy. Last year we were happy coming off a road trip at .500. We're not that team any more," Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews said, via ESPN. "We didn't come out with the right energy and the right mentality against Houston and they were ready for us. We came out with the right mentality early in (the game against Oklahoma) and (Kevin Durant) had a hell of a fourth quarter, so it's bitter."
Denver, meanwhile, sits at .500 with a 20-20 record. Their five-game winning streak came to an end on Jan. 13 against the Utah Jazz, and the Nuggets have been inconsistent since. They bounced back with a surprising win over the Golden State Warriors, but then lost their next two games against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns.
"We score enough points," said Nuggets guard Ty Lawson. "No defense."
Things won't be an easier for Denver after losing Danilo Gallinari for the season to a torn left ACL, his second in less than a year.
