Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill's wife Lauren reportedly left a rifle in the back of a rental car in Florida.
According to authorities from the Broward Sheriff's Office who spoke with the Associated Press, Lauren Tannehill picked up a Nissan Rogue she'd rented from EZ Rental Car at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport on Jan. 4.
About two hours later, she came back to the car rental shop to switch the Nissan for another vehicle. A woman who rented Lauren's first car that same evening discovered the LMT AR-15 in the back of the vehicle two days later. AP reported that the firearm was sealed in a case.
After finding the semi-automatic weapon, Rochester, N.Y. resident Judith Fleissig called EZ Rental Car employees, who told her to give the $2,000 rifle to authorities.
A spokesperson for the Dolphins told AP that no charges will be filed against the Tannehills, who are regarding this event as a personal one with no further comment.
"Though dangerous if it would have landed in the wrong hands, it's not criminal," spokesperson for the Broward sheriff's office Keyla Concepcion told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Lauren and Ryan Tannehill were married in January 2012 after dating for three years.
