There are numerous unofficial ways and channels to upgrade OnePlus 2, one of which is via CyanogenMod. The said channel just recently released an Android 7.1 Nougat through CM 4.1, a custom ROM (Read-Only Memory).

With that being said, below is the step-by-step guide on how to upgrade OnePlus 2 smartphone to Android 7.1 Nougat:

  1. Perform a backup for the device since the process is exlusively applicable for OnePlus 2 smartphone only. Do not attempt to apply this on other smartphones since it will only brick the device.
  2. Ensure that the OnePlus 2 smartphone is fixed before starting the installation.
  3. Download Google Apps and CM 13.1 on the computer.
  4. Connect the OnePlus 2 smartphone to the computer.
  5. Create a folder where the said files will be transferred.
  6. Turn off the OnePlus 2 smartphone and disconnect it from the computer.
  7. Switch the smartphone on in a recovery mode. To turn the device on a recovery mode, press the power switch button together with the volume down button for how many seconds.
  8. Clear the cache before switching into wipe dalvik cache. To do so, select the wipe cache partition.
  9. Install the zip from the SD card and select the downloaded files.
  10. Once the installation has been completed, press Go Back then reboot the device.
  11. OnePlus 2 smartphone will start launching the installed Android Nougat OS.
