A Dallas woman, who glued her 2-year-old daughter's hands to a wall after beating her nearly to death, was sentenced to 99 years of imprisonment.
Judge Larry Mitchell doubled the prosecutor's demand for a 45-year imprisonment and sentenced Elizabeth Escalona to 99 years of imprisonment citing the brutality of her crime.
"On Sept. 7, 2011, you savagely beat your child to the edge of death. For this you must be punished," the judge said.
Authorities revealed that Escalona will have to stay at least 30 years in prison before she becomes eligible for parole.
The 23-year-old mother admitted that she abused her 2-year-old daughter, Jocelyn Cedillo and pleaded for leniency.
The young mother was reportedly furious over potty training problems and as per the police records, she kicked her daughter in the stomach, beat her with a milk jug, then stuck her hands to an apartment wall with an adhesive commonly known as Super Glue.
A doctor testified at the hearing said the child suffered a fractured rib, bleeding in her brain, multiple bruises and bite marks all her body. Skin had been torn off from the toddler's hands and doctors found glue residue and white paint chips from the apartment wall. The attack left the child in a coma for two days.
"I hit her, I kicked her constantly, and she didn't deserve that," Escalona was quoted as saying in the Dallas Morning News.
Defense attorney Angie N'Duka pleaded for probation or a prison sentence shorter than 10 years on the ground that the accused had been sexually abused as a child, a product of a broken home and had a childhood of drug abuse and gang activities.
