Connecticut Man Looking for Missing 5-Year-Old Son Charged With Heroin Sale

The Connecticut man who has been looking for his missing 5-year-old son for weeks was charged with sale of heroin on Monday.

41-year-old Jose Oliver was caught with about 30 small plastic bags of heroin by New Britain, Conn. authorities this week, the Associated Press reported.

Law enforcement officials who were running the drug sting that led to Jose's arrest said they initially didn't realize that the Connecticut resident was the father of missing child Jeremiah Oliver.

The 5-year-old has been missing since September, when he disappeared from his mother's house in the northern Massachusetts city of Fitchburg.

Jose has reportedly been organizing search parties to look for the child for the last two weekends in Fitchburg, AP reported, but police didn't know about the young boy going missing until his father was taken into the state's custody on Monday.

Jeremiah's mother and her boyfriend, neither of whose identities have been released, pleaded not guilty to a host of charges, including abuse and child endangerment.

The Associated Press stated that it is still unclear whether Jose Oliver has secured legal representation. He was unable to answer questions on Thursday.
