A "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star is under fire for making a racial comment during Monday's episode.
Brandi Glanville, 41, made the comment while she and her "Real Housewives" co-stars lounged by a pool in Palm Springs. Co-star Joyce Girauld, said she couldn't swim to which Glanville replied, "You're a black person." which shocked everyone into silence.
"It was a joke and my black friends would've laughed crazy, 'cause they don't go in the pool because they will get their weave f---ed up," Glanville said. "All my black friends can't swim."
Glanville was drunk at the time, US Weekly reported.
"Yes, I'm black. What's your problem? Puerto Ricans are black, they're Indian and they're Spanish," Girauld said. "So I am a mix of three cultures and I'm very proud to represent all three."
After the episode aired, Glanville called the "Watch What Happens Live!" show to clarify that she was not trying to be racist.
"I know what I said was definitely inappropriate, but I say a lot of inappropriate things. I'm not racist," she said to the show's Andy Cohen, US Weekly reported. "My friends and I joke with each other this way and they're from all different backgrounds."
Glanville stressed she apologized for her offence. Glanville also said she won't go to great lengths to defend herself.
"I think the more you defend it, the more you look guilty, so I don't really have to say that much more," she said.
"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kenya Moore expressed her disapproval of Glanville's remark on Twitter, US Weekly reported.
"Not all black women wear hair weaves, half the women on Beverly Hills Housewives are wearing some fake hair," Moore said. "Brandi could not be more ignorant."
