Bad news for fans of Bethesda's popular "Fallout" series as the "Fallout 4 teaser site" Survivior2299.com has been confirmed by the development company as being a hoax. The site had so many people who were already waiting on the edge of their seats for an announcement about a fourth installment of the game get their hopes up.
The hoax was dismantled once Bethesda made it clear that the site was not official on its Twitter feed. The confirmation it was a hoax occurred when someone tweeted at the company asking if the site was "false also?"
"correct - it's not an official site," the developer tweeted back. Soon after, the person behind the website hoax updated it to confirm the news himself.
According to IGN, the site first appeared in November and was quickly uncovered by Reddit users who were quickly able to identify javascript code linking it to the Fallout game developer. The site featured a countdown and a morse code blip, which seemed to be counting down to Dec. 11. In addition to the news, Bethesda recently trademarked "Fallout 4" in Europe, which added extra fuel to the fires that this site was going to be the developer's way of announcing the fourth game. While the site being a hoax doesn't necessarily mean that the game won't be here soon, it simply means that the site that was expected to announce the game is not real.
In a Reddit AMA, the person behind the hoax website said that he made it because "some men just want to watch the world burn."
The publisher is still playing all of its cards about "Fallout 4" very close to the vest. It already announced that it would not be making any announcements at this year's VGX. This means that the fans of the game will have to wait a little bit longer before any announcement is made.
