Fallout 4 Release Date Rumors: Bethesda Executive Tweets The Game Won't Be Announced This Weekend

Despite rumors that Bethesda was gearing up to announce the fourth installment in its "Fallout" game franchise at the upcoming VGX show happening over the weekend, the game developer has said that it won't be unveiling anything new.

While the company has not completely scrapped the idea that a "Fallout 4" announcement is coming, it's simply said that it won't be coming this weekend. The publisher's vice president of public relations and marketing, Pete Hines took to Twitter to lower people's expectations for the event.

"No, folks. I am not going to VGX. Bethesda is not showing/talking about anything at VGX. Just some PR meetings in LA. Take deep breaths."

Excitement for "Fallout 4" has been stirred up recently following the discovery of a potential new teaser website, TheSruvivor2299.com. The site features a countdown and some morse code blips that count down to Dec. 11, 2013. Recently a message appeared on the site that read "Nuclear winter is here."

Previously, users have identified javascript code specifically callout out Fallout by way of ZeniMax Media, which owns Bethesda's developer/publisher divisions as well as the domain name TheSurvivor2299.com.

IGN points out that this might not be completely legitimate since ZeniMax registered previous game's websites "Wolfenstein" and "The Elder Scrolls" through Corporate Domains Inc. However, TheSurvivor2299.com was registered with GoDaddy.com. Other issues with how the site was set up indicate that, if this is legitimate, it's been done in a very round about and peculiar way for Bethesda.

Hines' Twitter announcement puts rumors to bed about the game being unveiled this weekend. However, the countdown website won't be disproven until December 11 comes and goes. In other words, while this is a disappointing note for Fallout fans, it's not the death of hope for a fourth game being released in the near future.
