Rudy Gay Trade Rumors: Sacramento Kings, Raptors Agree To 7-Player Deal

The Toronto Raptors agreed on Sunday to trade Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings in a seven-player deal. Sacramento will send Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes for Toronto's Gay, Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray, Yahoo! Sports reports.

The deal is expected to be finalized on Monday after Gay undergoes a physical in Sacramento.

Sources tell Yahoo! Sports that Gay and the Raptors had become unhappy with each other. Gay makes $17.8 million this year and has a player option for $19.3 million next season, which he would likely take. Dealing Gay frees up cap space for the Raptors to make a splash in free agency this summer.

"Rudy is a prince of a guy," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said, via ESPN. "He's an athletic, dynamic wing player. Gets to the basket at will. Can shoot the ball. Handle the ball. We were using him more in a drive situation, pick-and-roll situation. He was growing into that roll, doing a better job because he can see over the defense.

"That was a different role for him to do that, but he was warming to it. And doing a good job with it, bringing the ball down the floor and breaking pressure."

The stretch forward joins a talented frontcourt with DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Williams. Gay is averaging 19.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and he's expected to make his debut with the Kings on Wednesday when the team hosts the Utah Jazz.

In addition to cap space, the Raptors receive Vasquez, a young point guard averaging 9.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game; Salmons, Patterson and Hayes add depth to the bench.
