The Facebook Home interface, which became available on Google Play Friday, is Facebook’s new way to appeal to avid users of the social networking site. However, one of its target demographics, teens, may be growing less interested in the social media company.
According to ConsumerAffairs.com, a study done by investment bank Piper Jaffay, shows nine percent less teens are used Facebook in the past year. However, Facebook is still the most crucial website for teens.
The decline in Facebook usage may be for a number of reasons. The most prominent may be the fact that more and more middle age adults are using the social networking site. This translates to more parents using the website. According to a study released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, the amount social networking sites are used by adults ages 30-49 is up nine percent in the past year.
More parents using a social networking site may cause teens to stay away. In addition, the growing popularity of site such as Twitter and Instagram, while they serve different purposes, may also contribute to the decline in teen usage.
The study done by Piper Jaffray also contributed additional stats. For example, 70 percent of teens prefer to shop at their favorite store’s website. Also 91 percent of teens are will buy a smartphone as their next mobile decive. About 60 percent favor Apple products for their next mobile device and 21 percent lean towards an Android device.
