Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries were expected to appear in court for settlement talks Friday as ordered by law, but the absence of Humphries delayed the proceedings , according to Associated Press.
Humphries, who had a game in Indianapolis on Friday, failed to show up for the initial hearing for the divorce, which demanded both the parties' presence. Superior Court Judge, Hank Goldberg ordered a hearing April 19 to decide if Humphries' absence should be fined or not. The divorce trial is, however, scheduled for May 6, according to Humhpries' lawyers.
The NBA player claims that Kardashian married him as a part of her reality show and it was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Humphries is seeking annulment based on his accusations but Kardashian denies the allegations and is not ready to settle for an annulment but wants a traditional divorce, the AP said.
Kardashian arrived for the hearing clad in a long silver tunic with half-white pants and tied hair, surrounded by security. Humphries' attorneys were present at the court. An exclusive report from E! News, said the reason for Humphries' absence was supposedly due to delay or cancellation of his flight to Los Angeles.
Judge Goldberg closed the hearing and explained that "the nature of settlement and settlement conferences under the evidence code are confidential," reports E! News.
A Certified Family Law Specialist Lynn Soodik, said Humphries' absence at the court did not bode well for him. He might be held in contempt of court as he did not seek permission to be absent from the hearing.
"They are trying to get them to settle without a trial," Soodik said. "You have an experienced judicial officer listening and telling you what they think your outcome will be at trial."
Kardashian is currently pregnant with her boyfriend Kayne West. A delay in the divorce would mean that the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star and West cannot tie the knot.
