Previous rumors have identified HTC's next flagship smartphone as the M10. Recent reports, however, indicate that this might not be the case and that the device will simply be called as HTC 10. This information came with leaks of the handset's new renderings, which sports a design that is also slightly different from what have been revealed by other sources so far. The leaked images, which have been uploaded to a Chinese website, show four HTC 10 color variants: black, gold, white and a black-and-white color combination.

One of the more arresting design features involves the bigger bezel at the rear panel, which sports what appear to be more angular edges. The aesthetics, however, still follow HTC's design philosophy. As several observers have already pointed out, the HTC 10 closely resembles the One M9 and HTC One A9 or could be a cross between these two handsets. It is important to note that the leaked images are not photos of actual devices that will hit the market; they are merely prototypes.

Sources say that key elements in the hardware, such as the round camera lens and flash combination, in addition to the home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, are already set at this point.

For those interested in HTC 10's hardware, the available specifications still confirm previous leaks. This includes a 5.1 QHD screen, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Many sources confirm the chipset and RAM, and it is not surprising given that the device will directly compete with the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5. Both of these phones are outfitted with the same processor and RAM.

The HTC 10's 12-megapixel rear-facing camera is also expected to feature HTC's proprietary Ultra-Pixel camera technology. It will be complemented by dual-LED flash, laser autofocus and optimized image stabilization. The base storage is pegged at 32 GB.

HTC has not officially announced the launch date for the HTC 10. But there are those who claim that it could be unveiled on April 19.
