As it struggles to remain relevant, Sony seeks to make a splash during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year with three Xperia phones. These 5-inch mid-range handsets will also reportedly come with new "smart products."

The first device in yet another X series (LG also has one) is called Xperia X. It is the more powerful of the two, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 CPU and a camera that boasts a massive 23MP Exmor sensor. It is also pushing the envelope further in the imaging department by outfitting the selfie camera with a 13MP sensor. The camera technology features Prediction Hybrid Autofocus designed to track subjects without losing focus.

The second device, called Xperia XA, uses the 64-bit MediaTek MT6755 processor, which is known to some as the Helio P10. It has a 13 MP main shooter and an 8 MP selfie camera. It has a lower resolution, however, with 720p display in comparison with the X's 1080p. Sony says this device can last up to two days on a single charge.

A third product in the series has also been spotted at MWC, and it is reportedly called X Performance. The handset has the same specifications as the X except for its top-of-the-line Snapdragon 820 processor and a slightly larger battery, according to Android Police.

Although the X series devices will not beat any performance record, its appeal rests on design and the previously cited camera credentials, according to Engadget. The X series features metal construction and sports the trademark Xperia design, but with an interesting curved glass display encased in frames that have smoother edges than previous Xperia phones. XA, however, seems to draw more attention since its screen takes up most of the front panel as the side bezels were reduced to almost nothing.

For example, the case of the Xperia Ear accessory, which is touted as the next-generation wireless earpiece. It is capable of providing useful information while its wearer is on the go.

"With our continued passion for technology, we will keep adding new and exciting features to evolve our smartphones," said Sony in an official statement. "At the same time, we want to change how you access information and interact with friends and family in a closer, natural and more meaningful way."

Sony has not released any pricing details yet, but the company said the smartphones will begin rolling out in the summer.
