Lana Del Rey released a minute-long teaser and release date for her upcoming short film "Tropico" today. Compared to the 12 and 24 second trailers previously released, the latest one gives more insight on where the storyline of the 30-minute film might lead.
"Tropico," will be released Dec. 5 has been described by Del Rey in a Nylon interview as a mixture of "Elvis and Jesus and Marilyn and extraterrestrials all in one," but unlike the previous trailers, the minute long teaser features no historical figures.
The first trailer released is the shortest of the three and shows Del Rey in a pastel glow with a white veil draped over her head as she repeats "Dear John, forgive us our sins," as a man who looks like John Wayne appears on the screen.
The second trailer released was 24 seconds long and starts with Del Rey and Ross dreamily staring at Jesus, Marilyn and Elvis as all three of them speak at the same time.
According to Billboard, "Tropico" was directed by Anthony Mandler and casts Del Rey as Eve in a "Biblical story of sin and redemption" soundtrack to "Body Electric," "Gods and Monsters" and "Bel Air," all tracks off her album "Born To Die: The Paradise Edition."
The trailer starts with Del Rey and model Shaun Ross forehead to forehead as her "boyfriend" tells her to "chill" because "it won't always be like this." The scene is followed by a mashup of strippers, poles, guns, alcohol and drugs in a sultry way Del Rey seems to always bring to her projects.
As her boyfriend waves a gun around for most of the time, the scenes slowly work their way to Del Rey getting close to taking a bite from an apple, which can maybe signify her as Eve, taking a bite out of the dirty apple, maybe New York, or the Los Angeles landscape shown in the clip.
The clip seems to show what may be the climax of the short film where a lot of armed men barge into the room Del Rey and her friends are pointing and shooting guns.
The final shot is the only similarity to the other two teasers and shows Del Rey dressed as either Eve or the Virgin Mary as she holds her hands together in prayer.
