A 22-year-old Colorado man has left a family heartbroken and confused after he shot and killed his 19-month-old daughter, Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa. According to the New York Daily News, Marrick McKoy allegedly shot and killed his baby daughter shortly after posting chilling messages on Facebook.
McKoy uploaded a picture on Facebook of himself and his daughter before posting the status: "I told u I can't live without u lol u thought I was joking now me and Mia out this b**ch."
He also posted "Don't judge me had no choice," before turning the gun on his daughter and then himself. The girl's mother, 21-year-old Kimphone (Kim) Phanthavongsa told police that she awoke that morning to her ex-boyfriend straddling over her bed with a gun threatening to kill her.
After fighting him off she said she ran to a neighbor's apartment to call police but before the cops could intervene McKoy had shot the toddler and himself. When police entered the apartment the father and daughter were discovered with gunshot wounds and rushed to the hospital. McKoy survived the wounds and is reportedly in critical condition but the baby did not survive the gunshot.
"I was on the phone with the officer, next thing I heard was a gunshot... it was my daughter he shot my daughter," Phanthavongsa told KDVR TV station. "If he threatened to kill me, why you have to threaten my daughter, she don't know nothing... she don't know anything that's going on."
According to the Daily News, Colorado police discovered that Phanthavongsa had an active restraining order against McKoy following a September domestic violence incident where he had threatened to harm her.
A woman claiming to be McKoy's sister posted on Facebook that she was devastated and shocked by the news.
"My little MIA ii love you so much boo. I was glad to called your aunt [sic]," she posted. "You were my first neice my brothers first daughter my mothers first grandgirl [sic]. She was so beautiful... I'm shaking my brains out I don't know if I should be angry or sad."
