BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, is now available for download on Android and iOS devices. However, it may take a while to complete the download because there is over 6 million users are on queue.
Users who have signed up on the official BBM site can use the application right away. Sad to say, the 6 million BBM fans who haven't signed up, though they can get the app in Android Play Stores and Apple's iOS, won't be able to use BBM immediately. They would have to wait patiently in line until they receive an e-mail on when they can start enjoying the BBM service.
BlackBerry said in its company blog, "If you didn't sign up in advance, don't worry -- we are focused on moving millions of customers through the line as fast as possible."
Some users, even after the phased roll out of BBM, have met problems of signing on and setting up the service, attributed to "temporary server error."
BlackBerry's BBM was initially scheduled to come out September. However, due to leakage issues, the launch was placed on hold. The company said during that time that they need to fix problems caused by the leaked app before continuing with the launch.
According to an open letter published October 15, BlackBerry, Ltd. had admitted that it is facing "challenging times."
Yet, the strong demand of the BBM app only proves that BlackBerry is still appreciated and longed for. While sales of its latest BlackBerry 10 are in retreat and the company has turned its focus to other businesses and governments, the company's BlackBerry Messenger continues to be an admired messaging platform.
The messenger proves to be a popular platform around the world, especially in budding markets where low-cost, but modest older BB phones are still in demand.
