After weeks of drama leading to a deal that finally ended the government shutdown there was a little bit of added drama while the House was trying to vote on the bill from an unexpected source; the House stenographer interrupted the vote by yelling about God and the Free Masons, according to CBS News.
Lawmakers and aides in the House were shocked when the woman, who has been identified as Dianne Reidy, calmly grabbed one of the microphones and started ranting, according to Fox News.
"Do not be deceived. God shall not be mocked. A house divided cannot stand," Reidy said prior to being dragged off the floor by the House Sergeant-at-Arms. An audio recording by Public Radio International's Todd Zwillich was able to pick up the rest of Reidy's tirade, according to CNN.
"He will not be mocked, He will not be mocked, (don't touch me) He will not be mocked. The greatest deception here, is that this is not one nation under God. It never was. Had it been...it would not have been...No. It would not have been... the Constitution would not have been written by Free Masons... and go against God. You cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve two masters. Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ."
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., was presiding over the House at the time of the outburst. Despite Ros-Lehtinen's banging of a gavel and cries to restore order Reidy continued screaming, Fox News reports.
"I hammered to get control and hush her up," Ros-Lehtinen told Fox News. "She said something about the devil. It was sudden, confusing and heartbreaking. She is normally a gentle soul."
Reidy is well-known and well-liked by most within the House making the outburst all the more surprising, according to CNN.
"The Sergeant-in-Arms didn't try to stop her because she works there and that's where she's situated," Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told CNN. "And she actually went up behind the podium where the president speaks from. They thought she was going to hand something to the speaker, and then they realized."
