David Hasselhoff has been known as "The Hoff" for as long as we can remember, and it looks like he may have done something permanent about it.

The actor revealed Thursday that he had changed his name to his nickname, David Hoff. "Big news today and a massive relief for me," he tweeted with a link to the YouTube video. "I hope everyone can understand...it feels great!"

In the 8-second video, the 63-year-old "Baywatch" star holds up a large, framed name change certificate with his new last name. "I've been wanting to drop the Hassel from my life for years," he says. "Now, I have made it official. David Hoff."

While many were unsure if this was a real certificate, his rep explained that he did not actually alter his name. "It's an excerpt from an ad campaign that launches in Australia this weekend," the rep told Us Weekly. "David is just having some fun and more will be revealed in the next 24 hours."
