The Detroit Lions have reportedly fired general manager Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Lions fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi following a loss to the division rival Minnesota Vikings last week, and things haven't looked any better since. The Lions lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in London this past weekend, 45-10, and are in need of a total overhaul.

The Lions have struggled on both offense and defense this season, and with players like Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and Golden Tate in place, it has come as a bit of a surprise. Last season the Lions made the playoffs with an 11-5 record, but lost in the first round to the Dallas Cowboys. They currently sit at 1-7 and last place in the NFC North.

Lions fans likely felt this was the year to build off of last season, but instead Detroit has turned back into a struggling football team. Their team has the 27th ranked defense in the league and is giving up an average of 385 yards a game. The Lions let Ndamukong Suh walk away and sign with the Miami Dolphins, and the loss of a player of Suh's caliber is clearly hurting them this season.

The Lions made a trade to acquire defensive tackle Haloti Ngata this offseason, and the move has not worked out. Ngata has 10 combined tackles, but no sacks this season. The Lions are looking to make changes midseason and one source reportedly said, "Insane day in Detroit," according to Schefter.

The Lions are obviously trying to head in a different direction, and head coach Jim Caldwell will likely need to show something down the stretch of this season if he wants to stay in Detroit.
