A gunman opened fire at a vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping center in Northern California Saturday evening.

The shooting, which took place outside a CVS Pharmacy in Livermore, left the driver of the car dead and the passenger hurt. The driver fled the scene afterwards. Police received a report of the shooting after 6 p.m., according to the Associated Press.

The passenger victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was then immediately rushed to the hospital. The driver was already dead when the police arrived on the scene.

Both victims' names were withheld. They are believed to be in their 20's and were not from the town, officers said, ABC News reported.

The Livermore Police Department is currently on a manhunt for two suspects. They said that the vehicle, a black 2006 BMW 325i with two red stripes on the hood, was driven by the suspect out of the parking lot onto Railroad Avenue.

The vehicle was found later on by the California Highway Patrol on Interstate-580, and police began a chase. However, they lost the vehicle when they neared Oakland.

"It's very dangerous and it's high risk," Sgt Steve Goard of the Livermore Police Department said, according to NBC News.

"That's what's concerning to us. That's why we are dumping every resource and we are very concerned we don't know what it is. We're trying to discover why they chose this location to engage in criminal activity."
