Rockstar Game's latest hit "Grand Theft Auto 5" has already broken sales records with its massively successful opening weekend sales. In just the few weeks it's been available it has already managed to overtake Grand Theft Auto IV's lifetime sales in the U.K.
This is especially impressive since it only took the game three weeks and "Grand Theft Auto IV" has the luxury of PC sales counting in its favor. "Grand Theft Auto V" won't be available for PC for quite some time.
According to IGN, this new record set by the company isn't surprising at all. "Grand Theft Auto V" is the U.K.'s fastest-selling game of all time, selling just over 1.57 million units in its first day and 2.25 million copies in the five days following its release. The previous record was held by "Call of Duty: Black Ops." This game sold 1.41 million units in just one day and 2 million after five days of its release back in November of 2010.
The game remains the U.K.'s best-selling game of all time. However, as IGN points out, it is fifth in terms of revenue with four "Call of Duty" titles ahead of it. However, older "Call of Duty" games are obviously peaking or stopping while "Grand Theft Auto V" continues to rise, aided by the release of Rockstar's venture into multiplayer with "GTA Online."
"GTA Online" has experienced several bugs and log in problems since it launched on Oct. 1. Users have experienced everything form freezing and crashing to characters being deleted. Rockstar Games warned users that its online service would likely have several issues in the first few days and weeks of launch and simply asks users to bare with it as it continues to push fixes and software updates. However, it's important to note that none of the issues really affect the game's Story Mode.
