Sony Pictures and Paul Feig courted Rick Moranis to reprise his memorable role as Louis Tully when they started shooting the "Ghostbusters" all-female reboot. Moranis simply turned down the offer.

"I hope it's terrific," the 62-year-old actor in a rare interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?"

The "Ghostbusters" reboot will feature cameos by most of the stars from the original two '80s including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts. The movie stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the new ghost-busting team.

Moranis has worked sporadically over the last 20 years, almost exclusively as a voice actor and writer. He chose to live full-time in New York City to raise his two young children after his wife Ann died of breast cancer in 1997. He doesn't regret his decision to disappear from the business.

"I was working with really interesting people, wonderful people," Moranis said. "I went from that to being at home with a couple of little kids, which is very different lifestyle. But it was important to me. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful."

His latest credits include lending his voice to Disney's "Brother Bear" films and radio commercials that aired mostly in Canada, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now that his children are grown, Moranis has started thinking more about getting in front of the camera again, but he'll only choose the projects he likes most.

"I'm interested in anything I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or a television role and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I'll probably do it. [But 'Ghostbusters'] didn't appeal to me," he said. "Yes, I am picky, and I'll continue to be picky. Picky as worked for me."

"Ghostbusters" will premiere in theaters on July 15, 2016.
