Son Of Boston Red Sox Broadcaster, Jared Remy, Charged With Killing Girlfriend While Daughter was Present

Jared Remy, son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster and former player, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, according to Boston.com.

Remy allegedly stabbed and killed his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, on Thursday night while the victim's daughter was home. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday at Waltham District Court -- the same court he was in on Wednesday to face accusations of assault from Martel.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan said at a press conference on Friday that Martel's daughter was home while her mother was murdered and is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Family.

After leaving court on Wednesday, Remy was released on personal recognizance. Ryan said that the court's bail decision was partially influenced by a conversation with Martel.

"The bail recommendation was based on a totality of circumstances,'' Ryan said.

Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Waltham police were called to the Windsor Village apartment complex, where they found Martel bleeding from multiple stab wounds on the back patio. Officials arrested Remy from the scene and was later taken to the hospital from an unspecified condition. He is expected at court on Friday.

Left at Martel's apartment is a blood-stained patio accompanied by an evidence marker and a small pink tricycle.

"It's creepy, it's a couple hundred yards from my window," said one of Martel's neighbors. "The little girl was literally selling lemonade the other day."

Martel's neighbor described Remy as a nice man. After allegations that Remy and another Red Sox security employee were using steroids in 2009, officials launched a full investigation which led to both men being fired. In an interview with The Boston Globe the same year, Remy admitted to steroid use, but said he did not supply his co-worker with the drugs.

In the interview, he admitted to abusing a former girlfriend in 2005.
