Patrick Dempsey has run out of luck in the love department, both on-screen and off.

First, his TV wife Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) on "Grey's Anatomy" pushed his character Derek to take a position in Washington D.C. without her. Then on Friday, his real wife Jillian Fink filed for divorce after 15 years of marriage, according to Radar Online.

"It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage," the couple said in a joint statement. "Our primary concern remains the well-being of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family's privacy at this very sensitive time.

Fink cited "irreconcilable differences" in her filing and requested spousal and child support, according to court documents obtained by Radar. She and Dempsey have three children together: 12-year-old daughter Talula Frye and 7-year-old twin boys Sullivan Patrick and Galen Darby. Fink is asking for joint custody.

"She's all about the kids," a source told TMZ. Dempsey's wife also has grown irritated by his "ego" and believes it's "out of control."

Fink and Dempsey married in 1999. The couple signed no prenuptial agreement, which puts the racing enthusiast's estimated worth of $40 million in jeopardy.

The professional makeup artist asked the 49-year-old actor to pay her attorney's fees and for the court to deny him any support from her. Fink wants to keep her jewelry and any earrings received from and after the date of their separation. Other assets will be separated during the divorce proceedings.

"It remains to be seen whether [the divorce] will be amicable," another source told TMZ.

Dempsey was previously married to Rocky Parker from 1987 to 1994.

"Grey's Anatomy" will keep Dempsey's character off screen for a while as he purses his job opportunity in D.C. The actor still remains a part of the show despite his absence.

"It's highly possible that we might not see Derek for a while," executive producter Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly. "There will be a time when you see him again, yes, but it's probable that you won't see Derek for a while."
