The slip dress is making a comeback. This clothing staple from the 90s that looks like lingerie but can be worn in the daytime, has appeared in the latest runway shows for Givenchy, Celine, Balenciaga and Chloe. Fashion exerts are calling the revival a "breath of fresh air," The Wall Street Journal reported.

Celebrities who have been pictured wearing the slip dress at recent events and on the red carpet include Rihanna, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Brie Larson, according to Refinery 20. But the latest slip dresses are designed to be worn better and classier than the 90s versions. The updated clothes come with thicker straps, more loose fabric and less skimpy cuts.

Here's how to pull off a slip dress for daytime wear:

1) Pair with runners or loafers.

For a more relaxed and casual look, pair slip dresses with sneakers or loafers, as shown in The New York Times. Comfortable footwear will give your dainty daytime look an unexpected twist.

2) Layer it up.

While a slip dress is most comfortable for summer daytime wear because of the dress' material, you can actually use it all-year round as long as you layer with other pieces - scarf, blazer, cardigan or jacket (in leather, denim or other material). You can also use the slip dress as a jumper and wear over a shirt or knitted top.

3) Wear leggings, tights or jeans underneath.

Show off your shapely legs by wearing tights, skinny jeans or leggings under your slip dress, as suggested by Vogue. It will help you stay warmer in the current weather too, and yet you'll still look pretty stylish in a dress.
