"Castle" fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief after sitting through the show's biggest cliffhanger of all: Would Stana Katic return to the show next season?

One day after the finale, Katic finalized a deal to return to the ABC series for an eighth season, according to Deadline. Her co-star Nathan Fillion renewed his contract a couple weeks ago and the network picked up the show last Thursday.

Katic confirmed her return on Twitter.

"Castle" also will have two new showrunners at the helm, longtime writers Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley. They replace David Amann who will exit after one season. In the season 7 finale, Katic's character Kate Beckett was contemplating a run for New York State Senate or staying with the NYPD to captain a precinct of her own. Currently, Katic is shooting a new movie in a remote location. She tweeted on April 30 to thank fans for their birthday wishes, which she celebrated on April 26.

"Castle" will return next fall to ABC.
