Normally, a season of "The Walking Dead" will end and leave fans in a coma of internal despair until the new season premieres. It's easy to see why. For all its early season faults, "The Walking Dead" has morphed into one of TV's most entertaining series. Fortunately, fans will not have to endure the torturous wait they used to as the show's companion series "Fear The Walking Dead" is expected to debut sometime this summer.

Not much is known about the new series at the moment, but here is what we do know.

  • "Fear The Walking Dead" will NOT answer some of the major questions viewers have, including the origins of the zombie virus.
  • The spinoff will reportedly have a general plot that will vary significantly from "The Walking Dead" both in terms of character convergence and development. "The Walking Dead" focuses on a group of strangers who are forced to survive together. "Fear The Walking Dead" will center on a single family and their struggle at the onset of the zombie apocalypse.
  • "Orange is the New Black" actress Elisabeth Rodriguez was added to the cast recently, though she will not appear in the series premiere. She could possibly be a good-natured stranger that crosses paths with the Tomkins family or a potential villain. We don't know.
  • The zombies in this new show may be different visually and physically. From executive producer Greg Nicotero: "You know, Fear the Walking Dead happens almost before [The Walking Dead] show even premiered. One thing that we play up on the show is the environment and how that plays on the walkers...In Georgia, it's very humid and sunny, so we take that into consideration. In Los Angeles, it's a lot more dry, so we've had conversations about what that would do to the look of the walkers."

"Fear The Walking Dead" stars Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Alycia Debnam Carey and Frank Dillane."The Walking Dead" will return in October.
