President Obama Tears Up While Addressing the Connecticut Elementary School Shooting Incident

President Obama addressed the Connecticut elementary school shooting incident Friday saying the situation calls for "meaningful action" to stop any similar incidents in the future.

The Connecticut elementary school shootout comes as much of a shock for everyone. The incident which took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School took the lives of 27 people, 20 of whom were children. A twenty year old gunman entered the school and started open-firing, and killed himself after killing 26 other people.

"The school could not have stopped it without prior knowledge that he was coming," said Bill Bond, a school safety specialist and former high school principal.

In a television appearance, Friday, President Obama addressed the incident and was seen choking and tearing up. He express "overwhelming grief" for the victims and their families and says this calls for "meaningful action" to stop any similar incidents in the future.

"We've endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years," Reuters quoted Obama saying an hour after what is being said to be "one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history."

Obama also said the country needs to come together to take "meaningful" actions so that tragedies such as these don't take place again as the country has been through similar situations in the past, but none so "devastating".

Obama also said he sympathizes for the family members of the victims and says his heart is "broken" for them.

"Our hearts are broken today, for the parents, and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children and for the families of the adults who were lost," Obama said, his voice cracking with emotion.

"Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well, for as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight, they know that their children's innocence has been torn away from them too early and there are no words that will ease their pain," he said.
