Facebook has been doing a lot of work revamping its Messenger app and making it an integral tool. Not only is the service compatible with third party apps, but it also lets users transfer funds as they wish.

But now, the social media giant is offering a new option for Facebook Messenger users: a simple browser-based interface for the service called Messenger.com. This interface will allow users to access Messenger without notifications, friend requests and other distractions on the primary site. The service looks like an overgrown version of the Messenger app on iOS and Android.

However, Messenger.com is missing a few key features. "For now it lacks the ability to record and send audio messages, instantly send a photo from your web cam, or use the new Messenger platform content sharing apps. But just like splitting Messenger's app off from Facebook on mobile, doing the same on the web could give the company more room to pack in bonus features that differentiate it from SMS and other chat apps," TechCrunch reported.

One new feature is the ability to turn on notifications, so that pop-ups appear in your top right corner, regardless of what program you're running.

The new site debuted three months after Facebook released a web-based interface for the popular messaging app Whatsapp, which the company recently acquired.

Messenger.com is currently only available for English-speaking users, but it will be released in other languages in the upcoming weeks.
