No. 4 Duke bounced back from last Wednesday's 77-73 loss to Notre Dame with a 69-63 win on Saturday against Virginia. The Blue Devils, who dismissed reserve Rasheed Sulaimon on Thursday, managed to overcome an 11-point second-half deficit against then-No. 2 Virginia and ended the Cavaliers' unbeaten streak behind freshman guard Tyus Jones's three-pointer with just 10.4 seconds remaining.
"I'm proud of our guys," coach Mike Krzyzewski said, according to ESPN. "It's been a hell of a week for us. For our guys to have the wherewithal and toughness to win (Saturday) says a lot about them and our team."
Jones finished with 17 points, guards Justise Winslow and Quinn Cook each added 15 points and freshman center Jahlil Okafor chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds, including six offensive boards.
After the game, Cook admitted closing out the team's wild week by handing Virginia their first loss of the season was important.
"Big time. Big time," Cook said, via the school website. "They're one of the best teams in the country, and if you can get a win against those guys, especially in their house, it's just a great feeling."
Unranked Georgia, meanwhile, is 10-11 after a rough January that saw them lose eight of their last nine games, including Saturday's 81-80 defeat at home to N.C. State.
"We've got to figure out a way to keep bouncing back," said coach Brian Gregory, via ESPN. "The guys have been great. I've believe(d) in them and they believe in what we're doing so we keep plugging away."
