If you’re a fan of the NBA you probably thought Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan had the Dunk of the Year as he posterized Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Knight. Well, you are mistaken. The Dunk of the Year belongs to Christian Terrell, a 6’2” guard from Providence High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
For your viewing pleasure here is the dunk below
Here are a few reasons why this dunk is better than Jordan’s:
-Although Jordan’s dunk was an alley-oop he had Chris Paul—one of the best point guards in the NBA—passing to him. Terrell had no Chris Paul.
-Jordan’s dunk allowed Knight to at least have his feet touch the ground before he fell on his back. Terrell’s dunk knocked the defender clean out of the air and onto his side.
-Probably the most obvious is—DeAndre Jordan is 6’11” and Terrell is 6’2”.
According to Deadspin, Terrell is being recruited by last year’s college basketball Cinderella Florida Gulf Coast University.
This makes sense, since FGCU was known as “Dunk City” during last year’s NCAA tournament. FGCU made some history after making it to the Big Dance following the 2012-2013 regular season. The Eagles beat the second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas in the first round 78-68. The team then went on to prove their win against the Hoyas wasn’t a fluke by beating the San Diego State Aztecs, a seventh seed, 81-71. The Eagles became the first 15 seed in NCAA tournament history to advance to the Sweet 16 but lost to the third-seeded Florida Gators 62-50.
To compare Terell’s dunk to Jordan’s here is what many called the NBA Dunk of the Year:
