A small plane en route to an FAA safety conference crashed into a Jackson, Mississippi, home on Tuesday killing the pilot and the two others on board. Tthe occupant of the house escaped with minor injuries.
The Piper PA-32 Cherokee 6 single-engine aircraft crashed into the house of Loretta and Roosevelt Jamison on Marcus Butler Drive, just off West Capitol Street, minutes after 5 p.m. The aircraft began experiencing engine trouble soon after departing Hawkins Field a few blocks away and crashed soon after. The pilot asked for permission to land; however, could not make it to the runway, reveals a report by The Clarion Ledger.
According to initial reports, all the three people on board including the pilot were killed while the only resident present in the house at the time of the crash jumped out of the window with minor injuries.
"Loretta Jamison, who was in the home, escaped by jumping out a window, her relatives said. Roosevelt Jamison wasn't home," the report said.
Family members of the pilot, identified as John Tilton of Ridgeland, confirmed that he was killed in the crash. The aircraft is owned by Superior Pallet Company in Flowood, Miss. Neither the president of the company Roger Latham of Brandon or his wife Michele Latham, the vice president, was on the board.
Michele Latham and her daughter Emily Latham arrived at the scene shortly. Emily said her father was supposed to be on the plane but decided to go hunting instead.
