Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred earlier today in Greenville, N.C. where 4 victims near a local law firm and Wal-Mart were shot, and have placed the suspected shooter into custody, WNCT9 reports.
Greenville Police Chief Hassan Aden made the announcement that the suspect is in custody at around 1:15 p.m. Police officers fired on the shooter after he turned his weapon on them, and Aden said that the shooter's condition is unknown. He added that both the Kellum Law Firm and Wal-Mart on Greenville Blvd are now crime scenes
A witness told WNCT9 that the shooter was told by police to stay down and put his hands up, and that he was moving around and the police were unable to reach him until they slowly moved in in an SUV and took him into custody.
The shooting began shortly after noon at the Kellum Law Firm, where a 9 On Your Side crew found one victim done after arriving on the scene. Witnesses told photographer Brad Christian that a man in a bullet-proof vest carrying a rifle had walked up and shot an insurance adjustor hiding behind a car. Police later clarified that the shooter was holding a shotgun.
Dianna Gee with Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. said that no one was shot inside the store, as the shooting happened outside in the parking lot, and added that all Greenville associates are safe.
According to ABC News, authorities say that the gunman shot one person near the law firm before crossing five lanes of traffic to shoot 3 more people outside of the Wal-Mart.
The conditions of the shooting victims are currently unknown.
