A "Vixen" animated series based on the DC Comics character is coming to The CW Seed initiative.

The series is expected to come this fall, and it will fold into the worlds of TV's "Flash" and "Arrow." The project is being shepherded by "Arrow's" Marc Guggenheim.

Comic Book Resources spoke to the writer/producer following the "Arrow"/"Flash" panel at the Television Critic's Association event. Guggenheim described "Vixen" as a "six-part origin story," and imparted that the team behind it plans to take advantage of the type of scale that's much easier to achieve in animation than in live-action... along with depicting some big character moments that won't be seen anywhere else.

The character of Vixen first appeared in 1981's "Action Comics" #521 from DC Comics. Vixen's alter ego is Mari Jiwe McCabe, who has a mystical Tantu totem that gives her the abilities of one animal at a time.

Originally from Africa, Mari's parents were killed by local government/military greed, corruption and violence. The orphaned Mari refused to succumb to the terrors surrounding her, and inherited her family's Tantu totem. With this totem, Mari can access the powers of animals...anything from the strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from threats like those that claimed her family.

The only thing I'm wondering is if they'll have Gina Torres ("Firefly") performing Vixen's voice as she did in the "Justice League" animated series. Time will tell, I suppose...
