‘Arrow’ Mid-Season 3 Premiere Spoilers: Laurel Becomes Black Canary, Oliver Queen Dead?

In less than three weeks the CW's "Arrow" returns with brand new episodes for the second half of Season 3. When the show went on a hiatus in December, fans were left wondering if Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was really dead.

Executive producer Mark Guggenheim told TV Line that the first three episodes following the supposed death "are among the best we've ever done. They're incredibly compelling." According to an official description of the midseason premiere, titled "Left Behind," the team will immediately deal with Oliver's disappearance.

"In the aftermath of Oliver's (Stephen Amell) fight with Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable), Diggle (David Ramsey) and Arsenal (Colton Haynes) continue to protect the city in the Arrow's absence," the description reads. "However, after three days without hearing from Oliver, they begin to fear the worst may have happened to their friend.

"Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) refuses to believe that Oliver could be dead until Merlyn (John Barrowman) pays the team a surprise visit. Thea (Willa Holland) suspects there is something more behind Oliver's disappearance and asks Merlyn for a favor," the description continues. "Meanwhile, Ray (Brandon Routh) tests a part of his new suit and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) takes up the mantle of the Black Canary."

TV Line has even more scoop and reports that "there's a lot of Thea and Felicity" screentime in the second half, and "Felicity will have some pretty big moments with Laurel as well." Ramsey hinted that the H.I.V.E. storyline will be revisited and fans can expect to see the Suicide Squad again.

Sin also plays "a pivotal part" in the storyline revolving Sarah's killer being unmasked.

Season 3 of "Arrow" returns Jan. 21 on CW.
