Washington (10-0) remains undefeated after escaping a near-comeback from the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, 69-67. Now, the Huskies are poised to match their best start ever under coach Lorenzo Romar, whose 2005-06 squad started 11-0.
"We don't play to prove to people how good we are. We can prove it to ourselves. When we prove it to ourselves we are capable of going out and winning games like this, it creates a belief and raises a level of confidence for us," Romar told the school website, via ESPN. "This was like an NCAA Tournament-type game. It just felt good for us to get this win."
Romar's Huskies, though, nearly squandered a 20-point lead in the first half and remained unbeaten only after Oklahoma missed a potential game-winning shot in the final seconds.
Washington forward Jernard Jarreau contributed 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, a positive step forward as he continues to knock off rust from last season's knee injury.
"I knew it was going to take some time coming off a major injury last year," he said. "I have to crawl before I walk. I was able to step up and help my team win."
Tulane, meanwhile, is 9-1. They've strung together eight straight wins since their 71-49 loss to Wake Forest on Nov. 17, with their latest win coming on Friday in a 56-49 victory.
