The Philadelphia Flyers managed to snap a four-game losing streak last night with a 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Edmonton Oilers, on the other hand, lost a painfully ineffective affair to the Chicago Blackhawks, 7-1, tacking on a sixth game to their current losing streak.

Just like the Flyer's victory didn't suddenly fix all the issues in Philadelphia, another Oilers loss didn't fully bury Edmonton's season - but it's inching ever closer.

Coach Dallas Eakins and his Edmonton roster are performing well below expectation and could be seeking a lineup boost in the form of a trade with none other than those Philadelphia Flyers.

The Oilers are looking for veteran defensive help and Philadelphia has a couple of players they may be interested in acquiring, according to Eklund of Hockeybuzz.com.

Stop me if you've heard this before...it appears that the Oilers are once again making a pitch for a veteran Flyers defenseman. I believe it to be Braydon Coburn but it possibly could be Luke Schenn. More to come.

Both players have been injured recently. Coburn returned against the New York Rangers earlier in the week and has played in the team's last three games. Schenn, who was out with an upper-body injury suffered in the second week of November that was supposed to keep him sidelined for two weeks, returned last night against the Blue Jackets.

He was benched partway through the third period, according to Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com, after giving poor effort on a Columbus goal.

Both players are bigger, slower, d-men by today's NHL standards. Coburn is a quality skater but doesn't lack a particularly strong offensive punch. Schenn is a stay-at-home blueliner who adds penalty kill prowess.
