Highcrest Middle School in Wilmette, Illonis may be added into the Guinness Book of World Records for having 24 sets of twins in the same grade according to Fox News.
The school has "3 sets of boy-boy twins, 11 sets of girl-girl twins and 10 sets of boy-girl twins." The majority of the twin sets are fraternal.
Luke and Ryan Novosel, 11-year-old twins, were allegedly in search of how to become one of many who are featured in the Guinness Book of World Records when they noticed an unusual amount of children who were also twins.
"We were absolutely shocked. I think it's just statistically kind of bizarre," said Nancy Fendley, their mother. "The whole school thinks it's the greatest thing. It's been such a fun, creative experience."
It has been reported the current record for sets of twins in a single grade is 16 at three different schools.
The Novosel brother's and their mother sent out an application to the Guinness Book of World Records who expect cross referenced birth certificates and photographs for confirmation. They are expecting "official recognition in several weeks."
The identical set of twins amongst the 24 are girls. Fox News claims another set of twins amongst the 24 were born on separate days because they were born during the midnight hours.
As the children grow older and advance academically, it is speculated to create another record because they will join other twins who are already enrolled or will be transferring to similar schools. According to ABC News, "federal statistics show about 33 twins per 1,000 births in 2010."
