Chinese police arrested a suspect who they said was responsible for the fire that engulfed a commuter bus in the port city of Xiamen in southeastern China that killed 47 and left dozens injured.
Police said on Saturday that the fire appeared to have been set intentionally and was not an accident, according to the Chinese News Agency Xinhua.
Thirty four 34 people were injured in the fire and rushed to nearby hospitals, the Chinese news agency reported.
Investigators have found traces of gasoline in the debris though the bus ran on diesel fuel only.
The bus's oil tank and tires were also found intact, according to the police.
However, investigators are yet to release any details of the suspect.
Releasing a statement on its official website, the Ministry of Public Security, the national police agency said that "It's a serious criminal case."
The incident took place just days after a fire incident at a poultry plant in the province of Jilin where 120 people died.
The poultry incident had raised issues about the safety measurements in Chinese factories and mining centers.
