Study Disclosed Profiles of Most iPhone Users: Rich, College-Graduate, and White

A survey aimed to profile the smartphone users revealed the income, education, and ethnicity of most iPhone users.

A phone survey was done by Pew Research Center on 2,252 Americans between April 17 and May 19. They used landline and mobile phone numbers on both English and Spanish languages. The objective of the study is to identify the demographic differences between iPhone and Android ownership based on ethnicity, education, and income.

The ethnicity category has white, black, and Hispanic; education attainment has less than high school, high school grad, some college, and college grad; while the household annual income is divided into less than $30,000, $30,000-$49,9999, $50,000- $74,999, and $75,000 and above.

The survey revealed that there are more Android users than iPhone users. The researchers proceeded to reviewing the demographics where they found out that the white Americans prefer iPhone while the black Americans choose Android.

The survey also correlated iPhone with educational attainment as those who have college degrees opt to use iPhone as their smartphone. 38 percent of iPhone users are college graduate compared to Android’s 29 percent. Only 11 percent of the iPhone users are less than high school while 25 percent goes for Android. The researchers will need to conduct further studies to identify why most college graduates opt to use iPhone even if there were Android smartphones that have the same price and features of Apple’s devices.

Lastly, the income difference clearly showed that most of iPhone users are rich with 40 percent of them earning at least $75,000 per year but there are still 13 percent of them who earns less than $30,000. Meanwhile, 28 percent of the Android users are minimum earners while 31 percent is over the top.

This smartphone ownership study made by Pew Research Center opens a lot of questions and more research. It proves though that smartphone ownership is not just about trend but also affected by different factors such as income, race, and education.
