Elderly Man Discovers He's A Woman During Doctor's Visit For Abdominal Pain

A 66-year-old man discovered he was actually a woman when he went to see a doctor because of abdominal pain.

After experiencing severe abdominal pain, a 66-year-old man from Hong Kong went to visit a doctor and was shocked to find out that he was actually a woman. The Hong Kong Medical Journal reported that the pain was because his abdomen had swollen owing to a huge cyst in his ovary. The bearded patient suffers from two rare genetic disorders.

The first disorder is known as Turner syndrome, which affects mostly women and girls. During this disorder, women usually have symptoms like infertility, short stature and lymphedema of the hands and feet. The other disorder is congenital adrenal hyperplasia where the male hormones increase in the body of a woman. This makes a woman look manlier as she begins to grow a beard and sometimes even a "micropenis."

According to doctors examining the patient, till date, there have been only six cases reported where the patients were found to have both disorders and only one in 2,500 or 3,000 women are diagnosed with Turner syndrome. Men are known to have an X and a Y Chromosomes and women are known to have a pair of X chromosomes. Women with Turner syndrome either have only one X chromosome or part of the second X chromosome is missing.

According to a report by The Sun, the Chinese patient was born in Vietnam and was orphaned at a very young age. He is known to have no testes and suffered from urinary leakage since his childhood. He also stopped growing after puberty at the age of 10 and now is 4.5 ft tall.

"Were it not due to the huge ovarian cyst, his intriguing medical condition might never have been exposed," seven doctors from two Hong Kong hospitals wrote in the study published Monday.

Meanwhile, the Chinese patient has revealed that he wants to continue as a man with the "possible need of testosterone replacement."
