Florida State visits Carter-Finley Stadium with a perfect 3-0 record, to nobody's surprise. The Seminoles' third win of the season came last week against Clemson, 23-17. The victory, though, was even more impressive because it was earned without star quarterback Jameis Winston.
"The mental resolve of this football team, that's why I love them," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said, via ESPN. "They understand how to rally together, they understand how to pull together, and they understand how much they care for each other. I think they mentally got themselves back together."
Winston was sidelined last week because of a one-game suspension, which the university increased from originally a half-game ban for "offensive and vulgar" comments made on campus.
Still, despite the series of off-the-field issues with Winston, Fisher maintained his support for his Heisman-winning signal caller.
"When he does spontaneous things he has to make better judgments," Fisher said. "Jameis is not a bad individual. He makes poor decisions. He's got to stop that."
Winton is expected to start Saturday.
NC State, meanwhile, is 4-0 with a chance to pull a major upset over No. 1 Florida State. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been huge for NC State, leading the ACC with a 166.7 passer rating while throwing for 1,005 yards, 10 touchdowns and just one interception.
The Wolfpack's first four games were against unranked opponents, and the Seminoles mark the beginning of a tough schedule for the rest of the season.
