IRS Scandal 2013: Arizona Senator John McCain Hints At Need For Specialized Counsel [VIDEO]

In an interview on "TODAY" John McCain made hints that a special counsel may be exactly what America needs in order to assess all of the evidence surrounding the IRS scandal.

As new details continue to emerge about the recent tax scandal crippling the image of the government agency- including a recently released video showing IRS agents line dancing - Senator John McCain said that a specialized group of lawmakers may need to be allocated to determine how best to conduct the investigations moving forward.

The scandal took a bizarre turn last week when congress circulated IRS-made videos showing members of the agency line dancing and even spending thousands of dollars on producing extravagant parodies of well-known TV shows like "Star Trek" and "Gilligan's Island".

"You just wonder: Why do they keep doing this stuff? It hurts their credibility enormously," the Arizona senator said. "Suspicions confirmed about what federal employees do. We all know there are many, many hundreds of thousands of dedicated federal employees who would every day for us."

IRS higher-ups maintain the videos were created for the purposes of team building and training.

When commenting on the tax investigation, McCain made it clear that reinforcements were needed in the hearings process.

McCain's comments come just one day after Darrell Issa, chair of the House Oversight Committee, called White House press secretary Jay Carney a "paid liar" implying he'd been withholding information about Washington's involvement in the controversy.

"I think we ought to wait and see how events unfold," he said during the interview. "Certainly when you look at the people that were targeted, it might be something different than accidental. I think we ought to have hearings, and I think that there may be an argument for a special counsel here, but let's wait and see."
