Christopher Harris was found guilty for beating five of his ex-wife's family members to death with a tire iron according to The Bismarck Tribune. Harris claims he only killed the 14-year old victim Dillen Constant after he walked in on the teen attacking the other four victims.
Harris was charged with five first-degree charges for murdering Ruth Gee, 39, her husband Raymond,46, and their children Austin,11, Justina,16, and Constant. He faces a "mandatory life sentence." A 3-year-old was also attacked within the he but survived.
After a drug and alcohol filled night, Harris went to the home of his ex-wife's parents and initiated an attack on Constant. Harris' brother stood outside of the home as loud screams and sounds of conflict rattled the home. According to Fox News, Jason testified that Harris' walked into the home with the murder weapon and shortly walked out of the home and said,"I (messed) up. I killed them all."
Harris' legal team relied heavily on his account that he only killed Constant in a reaction to entering the home in the mist of the teen attacking the other victims. "It's emotional to know that Dillen was vindicated. It's emotional to know that justice was done," said Jonathan Wright, Logan County State's Attorney.
Amongst Jason's confession, Harris' frequent lies, a bloody hand print, his sexual encounter with an ex-girlfriend the morning after the crimes, and a testimony from a pathologist were conducive to his conviction. The Bismark Tribune reports that the pathologists revealed that Constant suffered 50 blows, most, while motionless. "I honestly was really looking through everything to try and find something to say he's not guilty. All the evidence against was way too stacked up against him," said Seth Jones, a juror in the case.
