First Lady Michelle Obama Travels To Boston, Endorses U.S. Rep. Ed Markey For Senate [VIDEO]

The battle for votes in the Massachusetts Senate race is in full effect as current U.S. Representative Ed Markey and Republican Gabriel Gomez fight for endorsements and support, but Markey may be the lead as he gains favor from the White House and first lady.

Earlier this week Michelle Obama made a trip to Boston to visit the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing and while she was there, she made a stop at U.S. Representative Ed Markey's fundraiser.

Markey was thrilled to receive the political affirmation at the event at the Taj Boston -- some donors paid nearly $40,000 to attend.

"The first lady is a symbol of our future," Markey told reporters. "She inspires millions of Americans, millions of people around the world, on a daily basis. So it is tremendous a honor for me to have the first lady here in Boston today, and I think it's really going to provide a real energy and impetus to my campaign."

Obama was surprisingly candid in her support for Markey, pushing that attendees would be able to show their support for president Obama via a vote for Markey.

"Ed Markey is a passionate and effective champion for middle class and working families, and we need him in the Senate to keep moving our country forward," the first lady endorsed. "Ed has a strong record of helping businesses create jobs and making sure that middle class families get ahead."

Attendees included: Senators Elizabeth Warren and William Cowan, as well as Gary L. Gottlieb, the chief executive of Partners HealthCare, Jack Connors, a former ad executive, and Robert Pozen, a local financier who was the chief economic advisor to then Governor Mitt Romney.

Much of Markey's position in politics has been rooted in the economy, energy and environment, and family issues.

He is also a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, a member of the Natural Resources Committee, and the co-char of Congressional Privacy Caucus (CPC).

This is a special election to decide who takes the place of Secretary of State John Kerry's senate seat.

Elections will be held on June 25.
