A 10-year-old boy found $10,000 in a hotel room according to The Kansas City Star. Tyler Schaefer was staying at the Hilton Kansas City Airport hotel with his family when he stumbled across the large amount of cash hours after checking in.
"He looks for stuff at random. He's very observant," said Cody Schaefer, Tyler's father.
Mr. Schaefer did not find his son's search to be unusual because he says it is a hobby of his. No matter where the family travels, Tyler searches his surroundings in hopes of finding something extraordinary.
When the child noticed the draw within the hotel room wasn't empty, he shared the news with his father.
"Somebody might have left something cool. I found money!," Tyler said.
Tyler and his dad were in town for the new Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Discover Center with his siblings.
The father-duo never imagined the amount found to be $10,000 but were very honest with their findings and reported it to authorities.
"We didn't know what to do at first," Schaefer said.
According to The Kansas City Star, the two discussed possible reasons why the money was left in the hotel room and to whom.
So far, no one has called to claim the $10,000. It is unclear how long the money was in the hotel room draw and it is almost impossible to track down all past occupants.
Friends and family weren't too pleased with Schaefer for alerting authorities of Tyler's new discovery.
"One person said I was an idiot," he said. "I didn't come there with $10,000 and I didn't leave with $10,000, so it was a wash."
