Andre 3000's Mother Sharon Benjamin-Hodo Dies Day After Rapper's Birthday

Andre "3000" Benjamin, who turned 38 on Monday, is mourning the death of his mother Sharon Benjamin-Hodo, who died one day after celebrating his birthday.

According to the Associated Press, Andre's mother died in her sleep early Tuesday at her Georgia home, a representative for the rapper at the firm Sunshine Sachs said Wednesday. She was 58-years-old.

Andre's mother founded the Starlight Camp for underprivileged children, an organization that she ran out of the New Morning Light Missionary Baptist Church in Conley, Georgia.

Andre's musical peers and fans logged on to Twitter to send their well wishes to the rapper's family.

"My condolences go out to Dre, and the entire Benjamin-Hodo family,"artist Jermaine Dupri tweeted Tuesday morning.

"Pray for the good brother Andre 3000 and his family...," tweeted producer 9th Wonder.

"This day Our Prayers and Support go out to #Andre3000 and his family," tv personality Free tweeted to her followers. "The loss of a beloved mother, wife, and friend is no easy journey."

Andre began his career in a rap duo called OutKast as a teenager with his partner Antwan "Big Boi" Patton. In 1994, the group released their debut album called Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.

According to MTV News, Andre's mother managed the creative duo's early on in their musical career. OutKast released five multi-platinum group albums, plus a soundtrack to their film "Idlewild." Since then, Andre has pursued a solo musical career, and has starred in movies like "Be Cool," "Four Brothers" and "Semi-Pro" with Will Ferrell.

Sharon leaves behind a husband, Robert Hodo, who is a church pastor.
